The current population for the community is approximately 31,000 residents and the total land area is just over 6 square miles. A brief history of the city of Laguna Hills: The homes are built on one of the extensive land grants that were created in the “Rancho” era. In 1821 those people who had served in the government or had associations with people in authority were give large chunks of land for cattle grazing. Don Juan Avila was offered the 12,000+ acre Rancho Niguel and which currently Laguna Hills is found. Lewis Moulton bought Rancho Niguel from Avila in 1894 and with his partner increased the initial grant to over 22,000 acres which they used to raise sheep and other animals. The Moulton Ranch finally subdivided the parcels in the 1960’s and is now recognized as the Laguna Hills housing market. Incorporation plans began in 1987 and in 1991, the Laguna Hills residents voted in favor of incorporating the city. Further annexations now include; North Laguna Hills, and the “Westside Annexation” which occurred in the year 2000, which included 150 acres of residential purpose land use, including the Aliso Viejo and Sheep Hills Park. The City Hall of the city is now found on El Toro Road which was purchased and renovated by the city, which also leases commercial space in the building, leading to a positive net income flow for the city.
Cultural Arts in the Laguna Hills community: Through the visual and performing arts self-expression is paramount along with local identify. This process occurs throughout a person’s lifetime.
